Esther Smith

Funeral Services were held 10:30 A.M., Saturday, August 23, 1997 at Higby Mortuary. Interment was held in the Aurora Cemetery.

OBITUARY: Esther Smith

Esther Johanna Smith, the daughter of Peter and Myrtle (Driesback) Traudt, was born at York, Nebraska, on August 31, 1907, and died at Painter, Virginia, on August 16, 1997, at the age of 89 years, 11 months, and 15 days.

She grew up and received her education in Stockham, and graduated with the class of 1925.

On February 21, 1929, she was united in marriage to Charles E. Smith, at York, Nebraska. He preceded her in death on April 17, 1960. When she was past 80 years old she moved to Virginia to be near her son.

Following the death of her husband she worked at the Aurora J.C. Penny Store, Jones Variety, and the Red & White Store.

She was a member of the Aurora United Methodist Church, and was active in church circles, was a charter member of the hospital auxiliary, served as treasurer of the Hamilton County Republican Women for 2 years, did volunteer work, and enjoyed traveling abroad to visit her son in the service.

She was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers Wayne, Clinton, and Peter Evon Traudt, and one sister Helen Miller.

Those who remain to cherish her memory are her son Charles Keith Smith of Nags Head, North Carolina; one brother Eldred Traudt of Hemet, California; one sister Ruth Carlson of Bradshaw; 3 grandchildren, and 3 great grandchildren.
