William SmithFuneral Services were held 2:00 P.M., Friday, August 14, 1987 at Grace Lutheran Church in Grand Island. Interment was held in the Giltner Cemetery. OBITUARY: William “Bill” John Smith William “Bill” John Smith was born April 18, 1948 at Burke Community Hospital at Burke, South Dakota to Martin W. and Esther (Woehl) Smith. He passed away August 12, 1987, at Mary Lanning Hospital in Hastings, Nebraska. He had reached the age of 39 years, 3 months and 24 days. Bill received his education in a country school near the farm home, with the highest honor of all the Gregory County 8th graders. In 1966 he graduated from Burke High School with high honors. He worked for Kaupp Implement Company in Jamison, Nebraska during the summer of 1966. In September of 1966 he attended the I.B.M. School in Des Moines, Iowa and graduated in January of 1967. On August 5, 1967 he was united in marriage to Mary Alice Poessnecker at St. Johns Lutheran Church in Atkinson, Nebraska. They lived in Central City and Wood River and Chapman, Nebraska. In 1971 they purchased their present home in Giltner, Nebraska. To this union 4 daughters were born whom he dearly loved. He was a faithful employee of New Holland in Grand Island for twenty years. During this time he made field trips to Canada, Minnesota and Iowa. He was baptized and confirmed into the Lutheran Faith in 1968 at Central City, Nebraska. His survivors include his widow, Mary; four daughters, Marla, Nikki and Kimberly of the home and Lori (Mrs. Alan Coats) of Giltner. His mother, Mrs. Esther Lindwurm of Burke, South Dakota; 2 brothers, Marvin Smith of Hooper, Nebraska and Ronald Joe Smith of Grand Island, Nebraska; two sisters, Myrna (Mrs. Kenneth) Lindwurm of Gregory, South Dakota and Alice (Mrs. Emmett) Prewitt of Burke, South Dakota; his step-father, William Lindwurm. He was preceded in death by his father, Martin on July 11, 1972 and his maternal and paternal grandparents. |
