Jim Spurlin

Jim Spurlin, age 81, formerly of Hampton, died Wednesday, December 1, 2010, at Memorial Hospital in Aurora.

Jim’s wishes were to be cremated. A gathering of friends and family will be held from 2 – 4 p.m. on Saturday, December 4th at Senior Center, 1205 11th Street in Aurora. Condolences may be e-mailed to the family through the mortuary website at www.higbymortuary.com.

OBITUARY: JIM SPURLIN

Jimmy ‘Jim’ Dale Spurlin, the son of Melvin Dale and Annie (Connway) Spurlin, was born in Stratton, Colorado on February 18, 1929 and died in Aurora, Nebraska on December 1, 2010, at the age of 81.

He grew up in Stratton, Colorado and graduated from Stratton High School. Jimmy served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War from 1951-53.

Jim was united in marriage to Martha (Marty) Boyer on February 18, 1959 at Dalton, Nebraska. Jim did elevator work over the years at Corn, Oklahoma; Denison, Iowa; Mount Vernon, Indiana; Wilson, Kansas; Heavener, Oklahoma; LaGrange, Missouri; Clay Center, Kansas; Rockport, Missouri; and Hampton, Nebraska. Jim worked at United Coop in Hampton for 22 years before retiring in 1999. They retired to Aurora.

Jim was a member of the Hampton American Legion 0141.

He was preceded in death by his parents; granddaughter, Kiana Marie Marberger; great-grandson, Justin Nelson; brother, John Spurlin and sister, Mary Coleman.

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Marty of Aurora; five daughters, Kaylin Galley of Hastings, Nebraska, Myricky Oddo of North Tonawanda, New York, LeDeanna Spurlin of Aurora, Nebraska, Millette Spurlin of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma and Brandanette Spurlin of Greenwood; son, Wade Dean Spurlin of Clay Center, Kansas; 13 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by two brothers, Dean Spurlin of Mineola, Texas and Frank Spurlin of Colorado Springs, Colorado and brother-in-law, Gary Coleman of Palmer Lake, Colorado.
