Dr. John Stanley Stanard
Dr. John Stanley (Stan) Stanard, age 87, of Aurora, died Thursday, September 23, 2010, at his home. A private memorial graveside service will be held at the Seward Cemetery. Rev. Mary Scott will officiate. No Visitation. Memorials may be made to Aurora United Methodist Church or Plainsman Museum. JOHN (STAN) STANARD Dr. John Stanley (Stan) Stanard, the son of John T. and Mabel (Hotchkiss) Stanard, was born in Ulysses, Nebraska on September 24, 1922 and died in Aurora, Nebraska on September 23, 2010, at the age of 87. He graduated from Ulysses High School in 1940 and Kemper Military School in 1942. Stan served in the U.S. Navy during World War II in the Medical Corps and was honorably discharged. In 1943, he was united in marriage to Marge Yardley and four children were born to this union: Pat, Sue, Mike and Jan. Stan received his undergraduate degree from University of Nebraska at Lincoln in 1947 and graduated Northern Illinois College of Optometry in 1950. In 1951, they moved to Aurora and Stan opened his optometry practice on the town square. Stan was married to Lois (Butterfield) Erickson in 1978. Stan retired after more than 40 years of practice. Stan was a longtime member of the Aurora United Methodist Church. He was an avid fisherman and loved to play golf. Stan was a lifelong Husker Football fan. He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Harriett. Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Lois of Aurora; four children, Pat Sell of Fort Worth, Texas, Sue (Fred) Hosman of Omaha, Mike (Denise) Stanard of St. Paul, Minnesota and Jan Stanard of Denver, Colorado and 8 grandchildren. |
