OBITUARY: Leota Stevens

Leota M. Stevens, the daughter of Andrew and Sarah (Harter) Grosshans, was born at Stockham, Nebraska, on August 22, 1898, and died at Aurora, Nebraska, on May 17, 1995, at the age of 96 years, 8 months, and 25 days.

She grew up and attended school at Stockham, then received her degree in public school music at the University School of Music at Lincoln, Nebraska. She taught music in schools in Crete, Lexington, Grand Island, and was assistant supervisor of music in elementary schools at Lincoln, and served as a music therapist on the staff at the Lincoln State Hospital.

On July 18, 1928, she was united in marriage to Fred Stevens. He preceded her in death on July 15, 1961.

Leota was a member of the Aurora Presbyterian United Church of Christ, and belonged to P.E.O. Chapter AC at Aurora.

She was preceded in death by her husband, one son Robert; a step grandson Bennett Madison, and 2 sisters, Alma Daniel and Marie Lauritzen.

Those who remain to cherish her memory are her grandson Craig Stevens of Leesburg, Virginia; 2 great grandsons Carter and Patrick Stevens; step-grandsons Matthew and Nicholas Madison; a daughter-in-law Barbara Stevens of Falls Church, Virginia, and nieces and nephews.
