Deryl Strong

Deryl Strong, age 75, of Aurora, died Wednesday, January 10, 2001, in the Grand Island Veterans Home.

Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 A.M., Friday at the United Methodist Church in Aurora. Rev. Seth Leypoldt & Chaplain Bill Forbes will officiate. Interment will be at the Aurora Cemetery. Visitation hours will be from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 P.M. Thursday at Higby Mortuary in Aurora.

OBITUARY: DERYL STRONG

Deryl Eugene Strong, the son of Kenneth and Cecile (Smith) Strong, was born in Aurora, Nebraska on April 11, 1925 and died in Grand Island, Nebraska on January 10, 2001, at the age of 75 years, 8 months and 29 days.

He was born and raised in Aurora. He graduated from Aurora High School. After graduation Deryl began his career with the Soil Conservation Service, he then enlisted in the Navy and served in WWII.

Deryl was united in marriage to Rogene G. Anderson on September 17, 1948 in Aurora. After the war, he resumed his career with the Soil Conservation Service. Deryl retired after 35 years of service with SCS. Following his retirement Deryl was groundskeeper for Crossroads Court for a few years. Rogene passed away April 19,1987. Deryl's last three years have been spent in the Grand Island Veterans Home.

Deryl was an avid hunter, enjoyed fishing, coaching baseball and spending time with his grandchildren.

His father, Kenneth, and wife, Rogene, preceded him in death.

He is survived by his mother, Cecile G. Strong of Aurora; two sons, Alan E. Strong of Pawnee City and Calvin W. Strong of Aurora; three daughters, Darla J. Svoboda of Aurora, Cheryl L. Smith of Gothenburg and Karen S. Auch of Papillion; 11 grandchildren, Ryan, Lisa, Chad Svoboda, Jerrod and Heidi Smith, Benjamin, Connor, Jeffrey, Angela and Melinda Strong, and Megan Auch; 4 great-grandchildren, Reilly Svoboda, Julia Briseno, Jordan and Zariah Smith.
