Orvetta SwedlundFuneral Services were held 10:00 A.M., Saturday, March 2, 1996 at Higby Mortuary. Interment was held in the Shelton Cemetery in Shelton, Nebraska. OBITUARY: Orvetta Zentner Swedlund Orvetta N. Zentner Swedlund, the daughter of Isaaac “Ike” and Grace (McPherson) Resh, was born April 28, 1907, at Red Oak, Iowa, and died February 28, 1996, at Aurora, Nebraska, at the age of 88 years and 10 months. She grew up and attended school at Red Oak, Iowa, and in 1921, the family moved to the Kearney vicinity. In 1928, she was united in marriage to Ray Zentner, and they moved to Murphy, Nebraska, where he managed the Murphy Elevator. They retired to Shelton, and he preceded her in death in 1957. On July 6, 1962, she married Carl Swedlund at Gibbon. They resided in Gibbon until Carl died on September 6, 1978. Following his death Orvetta moved to Grand Island, where she lived for a few years, before moving to McCook in 1982, to help care for her daughter Betty, who was diagnosed with Lou Gerighs Disease. After the death of her daughter, she moved to Aurora to be among family and friends. She had attended the Methodist Church, was a member of a birthday club, the Happy Hour Extension Club, belonged to local card clubs, enjoyed crocheting and reading. She was preceded in death by her parents, husbands, daughter Betty Coufal, 3 brothers Vernon Resh, Irvin Resh, and Thurl Resh; a sister Opal Muller, and a step-son Randy Swedlund. Those who remain to cherish her memory are a step-daughter Dorothy Jean Holl of Upland; a step-son Marvin “Sandy” Swedlund of Grand Island; 6 grandchildren, and 9 great-grandchildren. |
