Shirley Sweeney

Funeral Services were held 10:00 A.M., Monday, July 10, 1989, at the Presbyterian United Church of Christ in Aurora. Interment was held in the Monroe Church Cemetery.

OBITUARY: Shirley Sweeney

Shirley Elaine Sweeney, the daughter of Gus and Della (Cox) Anderson, was born at Phillips, Nebraska, on September 6, 1928, and passed away at Aurora, Nebraska, on July 5, 1989, at the age of 60 years, 9 months, and 29 days.

She attended school at Giltner and graduated from the 8th grade, and then moved to Marquette, where she graduated from high school in 1947. After graduation she worked in cafes and the Hested Store in Aurora.

On December 27, 1949, she was united in marriage to O’Neil Sweeney, Sr., at Aurora. He preceded her in death on July 28, 1978.

In 1964, she started working at the Aurora High School Cafeteria, and held the position of head cook for 18 years.

Shirley was a member of the Aurora Presbyterian United Church of Christ.

Shirley was interested in sports as a young girl, and was active in attending sporting events for her sons.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and on sister Delores Henman.

Those who remain to cherish her memory are 4 sons, O’Neil, Jr., of Aurora, Brad of Marquette, Doug of Hastings, and Matt of Aurora. 4 brothers, Marion “Bud” Anderson of Aurora, Gene Anderson of Clinton, Arkansas, Bob Anderson of Louisville, Nebraska, and Don Anderson of Sun City, Arizona and 8 grandchildren, Shana, Dama, Tara, Chelsie, Derek, Shane, Cody, and Dana.
