Richard Talich

Richard Talich, age 84, of Giltner died Wednesday night, July 24, 2002, at his home in Giltner.

Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 A.M., Monday, July 29th at the Giltner United Methodist Church. Rev. Nora Leeds will officiate. Interment will be in the Giltner Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 P.M. on Sunday at the Giltner United Methodist Church. Condolences may be e-mailed to the family through the mortuary website at higbymortuary.com.

OBITUARY: RICHARD TALICH

Richard Thomas Talich, the son of Henry Franklin and Henrietta (Croxen) Talich, was born in Hamilton County, Nebraska on May 19, 1918 and died in Giltner, Nebraska on July 24, 2002, at the age of 84.

Rich grew up on the family farm north of Giltner. He graduated from Giltner High School in 1936. Rich traveled to Oregon to work in the lumber industry and then returned to Nebraska.

Rich was united in marriage to Arleene B. Hartzell on November 15, 1944, at Columbus, Nebraska. Rich served in the Army during World War II. After returning from the war, they farmed near Giltner. In 1965, they owned and ran the Giltner Tavern until their retirement in 1973. Rich then went to work for the county operating a road grader until 1984. Arleene passed away on November 6, 2000.

Rich was a member of the United Methodist Church in Giltner, the Grand Island Fraternal Order of Eagles, American Legion Post #300 of Doniphan and the V.F.W. in Aurora. He liked to hunt and garden. In his younger years he enjoyed and excelled in athletics.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, one great-grandson and two sisters.

Those who remain to cherish his memory are his two sons, Gary Talich and his wife Donna of Hastings and Rob Talich and his wife Dawn of Omaha; a daughter, Pat Chandler and her husband Jon of Westminister, Colorado; 8 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; a brother, Roger Talich of Littleton, Colorado and two sisters, Ardith Hoffman of Pendleton, Oregon and Wilma Folkerts of Scottsbluff, Nebraska.
