John Thomas

Funeral Services were held 2:00 P.M., Wednesday, June 5, 1985 at the Aurora Evangelical Covenant Church in Aurora. Interment was held in the Aurora Cemetery.

OBITUARY: John Thomas

John Garland Thomas, the son of John and Opal (Osborne) Thomas, was born March 30, 1934, at Park Hill, Oklahoma, and passed away at Omaha, Nebraska, on June 2, 1985, at the age of 51 years, 2 months and 2 days.

He graduated from the Lake Hamilton High School in Hot Springs, Arkansas, and was a graduate of Kansas State College, at Pittsburg, Kansas, with a degree in business administration and a major in marketing.

On March 23, 1957, he was united in marriage to Carol Weathersby, at Midwest City, Oklahoma.

John served in the U.S. Airforce as a weather observer and was a member of the Aurora Evangelical Covenant Church, where he served as chairman of the diaconate. He was also a member of the Aurora Chamber of Commerce and the Aurora Rotary Club.

He had traveled to 48 of the 50 states and many foreign countries during his business career. In 1958, he began his career in the mobile home industry, and joined a manufacturing company in 1962. In 1971, he joined the Chief Industries Housing Division of Aurora, and in 1972, he moved to Aurora, where he served as director of operations, sales director, and vice-president of operations and marketing, prior to his medical retirement in August of 1980. For the last few years he was associated with the Thomas Realty and Auction Company of Aurora.

In 1976, John received a kidney transplant, and he was vice-president of the National Kidney Foundation of Nebraska. He served as chairman of the membership and legislative committees and was Hamilton County chairman for the annual Passkit Drive.

He had served on the Aurora City Council until his health failed.

Those who survive to cherish his memory are his wife Carol; one son John Jr., of Aurora; 3 daughters, Robin Hurley of Aurora, Wendy Thomas of Aurora and Stacie of Lincoln; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Hoyt Thomas of Edwards, Missouri; 4 brothers, Dwain of DeSota, Kansas, T.R., Jerry and Harold of Shawnee, Kansas and many other relatives, friends and business associates.
