Velva Titman

Velva Titman, age 92, of Aurora, died Wednesday afternoon, September 20, 2000, at the Memorial Community Care in Aurora.

Funeral Services will be 3:00 P.M. Friday, September 22, 2000 at the Presbyterian-United Church of Christ in Aurora. Rev. Monty Nelson will officiate. Burial will be in the Aurora Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 P.M. Thursday at Higby Mortuary. Memorials may be given to the Presbyterian-United Church of Christ.

OBITUARY: VELVA VIOLA TITMAN

Velva Viola Titman, the daughter of Edward and Phoebe (Zehr) Titman, was born in Aurora, Nebraska on February 17, 1908 and died in Aurora, Nebraska on September 20, 2000, at the age of 92 years, 7 months and 3 days.

She graduated from Aurora High School and attended Hastings College and later graduated from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.

She taught school in David City and the Aurora elementary schools until her retirement.

Miss Titman was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma Teachers Society International and the Aurora area of Retired Teachers Association, past board member of the Hamilton Manor Auxiliary, and was honored by Zeta Iota of Beta Sigma Phi, Lady of the Rose.

She was a member of the Presbyterian United Church of Christ in Aurora for more than 50 years. Miss Titman loved music and children. She directed the children’s junior choir, taught Sunday school and summer Bible school for 40 years, was an active member of the women’s association, past church council member and Bible Study leader for a number of years.

She was the last surviving member of her family and was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Elwin, Chauncey and Merton; and two sisters, Faera and Maizie.

Those who remain to cherish Velva’s memory: nephew, Gregory Titman of Wellesley, MA; nieces, Gretchen Hancock and her husband George of Lincoln, Susan Fuller and her husband Paul of Saarbrucken, Germany, Martha June Blixt and her husband Melvin of Irvine, CA, Patricia Odell and her husband Lincoln of Irvine, CA and Jacquelyn Swartz and her husband Bret of Palm Desert, CA; and great nieces and nephews and cousins.
