Virginia TivisFuneral Services were held 2:00 P.M., Thursday, December 22, 1983 at the Aurora United Methodist Church. Interment was held in the Aurora Cemetery. OBITUARY: Virginia M. Tivis Virginia Melissa Tivis, the daughter of William and Melissa (Darling) Myers, was born July 30, 1899, in York County, Nebraska, and passed away in Aurora on December 18, 1983, at the age of 84 years, 4 months and 18 days. Virgie, as she was called by all who knew her, graduated from Aurora High School in 1918. She taught school for 2 years at Furay’s Grove Country School near Aurora, prior to her marriage. On June 5, 1920, she was united in marriage to Ralph Tivis at York, Nebraska. Two daughters were born to this union. After their marriage they farmed in Hamilton County. Beginning in 1942 she operated the Fairmont ice cream parlor for 12 years. In 1947 they moved into Aurora and in 1977 she moved into the Hamilton Manor where she has since resided. She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Aurora. Virgie was preceded in death by her husband, parents, 2 sisters and 9 brothers. Those who remain to cherish her memory are her two daughters, Mrs. James (Rojean) Calkins of Vancouver, Washington and Mrs. Lloyd (Shirley) Sorenseon of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; 4 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews and close friends. |
