Max Torgerson

Funeral Services were held 1:30 P.M., Saturday, November 16, 1985 at the First United Methodist Church in Grand Island. Interment was held in the Giltner Cemetery.

OBITUARY: Max Torgerson

Max Torgerson, the son of James and Lela (Strong) Torgerson, was born at Giltner, Nebraska, on March 3, 1916, and passed away at Grand Island, Nebraska, on November 14, 1985, at the age of 69 years, 8 months and 11 days.

He grew to manhood in the Giltner area and graduated from the Giltner High School. For a time he worked for a furnace company in Lincoln and Grand Island, and from 1943 to 1945, he served his country in the 9th Air Force, serving in England and Germany, and attended machinists school. From 1947 to 1966 he lived on a farm near Giltner with his mother. In 1966, he moved into Giltner and worked for the Hamilton County Highway Department until 1975. From 1975 to 1981 he worked for Chief Industries in Grand Island, and retired in 1981.

On February 6, 1970, he was united in marriage to Maxine (Huffman) Torgerson, at Grand Island. They made their home in Grand Island.

Max was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Grand Island, and was also a member of the Platt-Duetsche, Liederkranz, and the Eagles. He also enjoyed traveling, and spent 3 winters in the Rio Grande Valley in Texas.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother Avery Torgerson and one step-son Tommy.

Those who remain to cherish his memory are his wife, Maxine; 3 step-daughters, Julie Bell of York, Kathy Hosier of Grand Island and Linda Nielsen of Grand Island; one sister, Mrs. Mildred Happold of Doniphan, 8 step-grandchildren, and many other relatives and close friends.
