Elmer O. UlreyElmer O. Ulrey, age 80, of Aurora died Friday night, April 7, 2000 at St. Francis Medical Center in Grand Island after a lengthy illness. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M., Tuesday at Stolley Park Church of Christ in Grand Island. Gary Bennett will officiate. Interment will be in Aurora Cemetery at 1:00 P.M. Visitation will be from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 P.M., Monday at Higby Mortuary in Aurora. Memorials may be made to Stolley Park Church of Christ or the American Cancer Society. OBITUARY: ELMER O. ULREY Elmer O. Ulrey, the son of Arthur Bradley and Nora Ellen (Forbes) Ulrey, was born in Chickasha, Oklahoma on April 10, 1919 and died in Grand Island, Nebraska on April 7, 2000, at the age of 80 years, 11 months and 27 days. His family moved to Elkhart, Kansas and then to Brewster, Kansas where he started to school and graduated in 1940. Elmer was united in marriage to Anna Lucille Campbell on May 14, 1942. They were married 57 years and 11 months. To this union a daughter Anna Louise, and two sons: Lyle Ray and Robert Eugene were born. Elmer was baptized in 1943 at the Church of Christ in Benkelman, NE and at the time of his death he was an active, faithful member of the Stolley Park Church of Christ. Elmer was employed by Farmers Livestock Sales Co. in Benkeleman, St. Francis, KS and McCook, NE before moving to Aurora. While living in Aurora he worked for Condon Well Drilling and Aurora Co-op Elevator. He and his family moved to Stapleton, NE in 1963 for a few years and returned to Aurora due to failing health. Elmer loved to work outside, gardening and raising flowers, and took pride in his work. He received the honor of Yard of the Week two different times, 15 years apart. He was preceded in death by his parents, daughter, Anna Louise Powell, son, Robert Eugene Ulrey and one sister and two brothers. Survivors include his wife Lucille of Aurora; son, Lyle Ray and his wife Jane; four grandsons, Robert Ulrey, Kyle Ulrey, George Ulrey and Robert Powell; granddaughter, Kathy Depperschmidt; five great-grandchildren; three sisters, DeLoy Way of Evans, Colorado, Marie Brock of Arvada, Colorado and Myrtle Koder of Brighton, Colorado; two brothers Wilber Ulrey of Aurora and Russell Ulrey of Aguanga, California and many nieces, nephews and dear friends. |
