Grace Umbenhower

Grace Umbenhower, age 87, formerly of Phillips, widow of Lester, died Monday morning at the Good Samaritan Village in Hastings.

She was cremated, and family services will be held at a later date, at the Giltner Cemetery.

OBITUARY: Grace Umbenhower

Grace E. Umbenhower, the daughter of Claude and Laura (Stedman) Lansden, was born at Aurora, Nebraska, on July 28, 1908, and died at Hastings, Nebraska, on May 20, 1996, at the age of 87 years, 9 months, and 22 days.

She grew up and received her education at Aurora.

On March 1, 1926, she was united in marriage to Lester Umbenhower, at Aurora. They farmed south of Phillips for 35 years, and then moved into Phillips. Lester preceded her in death on January 20, 1986. In May of 1994, she entered the Good Samaritan Village at Hastings.

She was a member of the United Methodist Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, 2 sons, 4 brothers, and 4 sisters.

Those who remain to cherish her memory are her son, Robert of Hastings; 3 daughters, Naomi Andrews of Arizona, Betty Valasek of Genoa, and Cheryl Tweedy of New Mexico; a daughter-in-law LuAnn Umbenhower of Aurora; 1 sister, 2 half-sisters, 1 half-brother; 13 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren, and 10 great great grandchildren.
