Lester UmbenhowerFuneral Services were held 2:00 P.M., Monday, January 27, 1986 at Higby Mortuary. Interment was held in the Giltner Cemetery. OBITUARY: Lester Umbenhower Lester Lyman Umbenhower, the son of W.J. and Lucy (Phelps) Umbenhower, was born at Columbia, Iowa, on May 17, 1905, and passed away at Phillips, Nebraska, on January 24, 1986, at the age of 80 years, 8 months, and 7 days. He grew up and attended country school in Iowa. At the age of 15, he moved to western Nebraska. On March 1, 1926, he was united in marriage to Grace Lansden, at Grand Island. They lived on a farm south of Phillips for 35 years, and then moved to Phillips and he worked for Prairie Valley Seed Company for 15 years, retiring in 1971. He was preceded in death by his parents, 2 brothers, Ronald and Frank, and two sisters, Ethel Argent and Faye Yonker. Those who remain to cherish his memory are his wife Grace; 2 sons, Delmer of Phillips and Robert of Hastings; 3 daughters, Naomi Andrew of Phillips, Betty Crawford of Platte Center, Nebraska, and Cheryl Fritz of North Platte; 2 sisters, Ruby Elwood of Portland, Oregon and Edna Towbridge of Libby, Montana; 2 half brothers, Wilbur Sutton of Garvais, Oregon and Delbert Sutton of Silverton, Oregon; 12 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, and other relatives and close friends. |
