Herbert Van HousenFuneral Services were held 4:00 P.M., Saturday, February 4, 1989 at Messiah Lutheran Church. Interment was held in the Aurora Cemetery. OBITUARY: Herbert G. Van Housen Herbert Gustav Van Housen, the son of Ferdinand and Emilne (Wagner) Van Housen, was born at Bradshaw, Nebraska, on July 11, 1900, and passed away at Aurora, Nebraska, on February 2, 1989, at the age of 88 years, 6 months, and 21 days. He grew up in Minot, North Dakota, and attended school there and worked for a laundry business. On November 3, 1922, he married Mary Logan at Minot, and in 1925 they moved to a farm near Hampton. In 1937, they moved to Gibbon and operated a hatchery, and in 1941 they moved to Aurora and ran a hatchery. In 1948 he opened a locker plant in Aurora, and also worked at the ordinance plant in Grand Island, and in 1965, he retired. Mary preceded him in death on November 1, 1974. Herb was preceded in death by his parents, wife, 3 brothers, one sister and one great-grandchild. Those who remain to cherish his memory are his son, Herbert F. of Aurora; 6 daughters, Eleanor Strotman of Central City, Evelyn Bullard of Kalamazoo, Michigan, Willa Mae Burton of Twin Falls, Idaho, Mavis Goertzen of Aurora, LaVonne Snyder of Wahoo, and Mary Atherton of Lincoln; one sister Sophronia Filipick of Minot, North Dakota; and 25 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren. |
