Dale Vetter

Dale Vetter, age 82, longtime Aurora auto dealer, died Monday evening, September 17, 2001, at the Grand Island Veterans Home.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M. Friday at the United Methodist Church in Aurora. Dr. Joe Scahill will officiate. Interment will be in the Aurora Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3 to 8 P.M., Thursday at Higby Mortuary in Aurora. Memorials may be made to the Grand Island Veteran's Home Alzheimer's Unit or the United Methodist Church. OBITUARY: DALE VETTER

Dale Francis Vetter, the son of Frank and Saloma (Springer) Vetter, was born at the family farm near Aurora, Nebraska on December 29, 1918 and died in Grand Island, Nebraska on September 17, 2001, at the age of 82 years.

Dale attended Aurora schools. He worked on the building of the Kingsley Dam in Ogallala and at the Lockheed Aircraft Factory in Burbank, California until World War II. Dale joined the Navy during World War II for 3 ½ years and took various college courses during his 14 months of intensive training. He served in the Aleutian Islands over 1 ½ years and in Hawaii for an additional year. After the war he attended Milford Southeast Community College.

Dale was united in marriage to Della Druba on October 2, 1947 and they soon would have celebrated their 54th anniversary. He was a partner in Vetter Brothers Dodge for 35 years, retiring in 1978.

Dale was a member of the United Methodist Church. He served on the Hastings Central Community College Advisory Board for 10 years. Dale served several terms on the Aurora Chamber of Commerce and City Council. He was a past member of the American Legion and VFW.

Dale was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Ray and Max Vetter and his sister-in-law, Betty Vetter.

Dale is survived by his wife, Della of Aurora; three children, Kirk Vetter and his wife Judy of Scottsdale, Arizona, Kathie Melson and her husband Karl of Aurora and Jerry Vetter and his wife Tracy of Firth; 6 grandchildren, Jenifer Onate, K.C. Vetter, Candi Smith, Kala Trainor, Jack Melson & Kate Melson; 4 great-grandchildren, Troy Adams, Lola Onate, Josh & Jake Smith; two brothers, Robert Vetter and his wife Roberta and Lynn Vetter and his wife June, all of Aurora and several nieces and nephews.
