Lyle Weedin

Lyle Weedin, age 85, of Aurora, died Wednesday, January 7, 2009, at Memorial Community Care.

Funeral Services will be held 10:30 A.M., Saturday, January 10th at the Aurora United Methodist Church. Rev. Mary Scott will officiate. Interment will be in the Aurora Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 P.M. Friday at Higby-McQuiston Mortuary. The family will greet friends from 5 – 7. OBITUARY: LYLE WEEDIN

Lyle Andrew Weedin, the son of Frank H. and Lydia (Danielson) Weedin, was born in Aurora, Nebraska on August 26, 1923 and died in Aurora, Nebraska on January 7, 2009, at the age of 85.

He grew up in Aurora and graduated from Aurora High School in 1942. Lyle served in the U.S. Air Force during World War II. After returning from the service, Lyle attended Spartan School of Aeronautics at Tulsa, Oklahoma and the Lincoln Flying School, receiving a single, multi-engine and pilot instructor’s license. He was on his way to be a pilot for Braniff Airlines, but due to family circumstances he returned to the farm in 1948.

On March 4, 1951, he was united in marriage to Shirley Wolff at Aurora. They farmed northwest of Aurora for 60 years.

Lyle was a member of the Aurora United Methodist Church. He served on the Natural Resources Board, Aurora Coop Board and Soil Conservation Board. Lyle was a true conservationist and served as State Master Conservationist in 1992. He loved the land and spent years building and maintaining wildlife habitat.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Kenneth and sister, Eleanor Molacek.

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Shirley of Aurora; three children, Craig (Shelly) Weedin of Aurora, Doug (Sarah) Weedin of Cody, Wyoming and Kaylene (Jeff) Zvolanek of Lincoln; 6 grandchildren, Jeff (Ali) Weedin, Lezlee Weedin, Nate (Kayla) Weedin, Luke Weedin (Jessica), Seth Weedin and Drew Weedin (Paige) and 3 great-grandchildren, Brady, Layla and Khloe. He is also survived by a brother, Wilbur (Marge) Weedin of Wichita Kansas.
