Funeral Services were held 2:00 P.M., Tuesday, January 12, 1993 at the Monroe Evangelical Free Church. Interment was held in the Monroe Church Cemetery.

OBITUARY: Ruth Westlund

Ruth Anna Westlund, the daughter of August and Mathilda Swanson, was born in Waverly, Nebraska, on August 19, 1889, and died at Minneapolis, Minnesota at the Redeemer Residence, on January 5, 1993, at the age of 103 years, 4 months, and 16 days.

She was joined in marriage to the Rev. J.W. Westlund on March 29, 1911. Their ministries took them into churches in Nebraska, Minnesota and Iowa. They served 2 separate terms of ministry at the Monroe Evangelical Free Church.

She leaves to mourn her death two sons and daughters-in-law: Lester and Theone Westlund of Minneapolis, Minnesota, Stanley and Marjorie Westlund of Pleasanton, California; three daughters and sons-in-law, Mildred and George Smith of Minneapolis, Minnesota, Marian and Stanley Gustafson of Phillips, and Dorothy and Linoel Barrett of Rapid City, South Dakota. She leaves 25 grandchildren, 48 great grandchildren, and 3 great great grandchildren.

Her parents, husand, J.W. Westlund, one son Marvin, 2 daughters, Eleanor and Rachel, 3 grandchildren, and 1 great grandchild have preceded her to God’s Heavenly Home.

Her commitment to her Savior was her joy in life. She led an active life in ministry up into her late nineties. Through her home church the Crystal Evangelical Free Church, she served in many capacities such as Deaconess, Chairwomen of the Women’s Ministry, working with the girls in Pioneer Girls. A weekly prayer meeting was held in her home until she moved into the Residency.
