Carrie May White
Carrie May White, age 102, died Saturday morning, April 19, 2003, at Memorial Community Care in Aurora. Graveside Services will be held at 10:30 A.M., Tuesday at the Aurora Cemetery. Rev. Seth Leypoldt will officiate. Visitation will be from 3 to 8 P.M. Monday at Higby-McQuiston Mortuary. Condolences may be e-mailed to the family through the mortuary website at higbymortuary.com. OBITUARY: CARRIE MAY WHITE Carrie May White, the daughter of James Henry Van Wormer and Laura Isabel Evans, was born in Stockham, Nebraska on February 28, 1901 and died in Aurora, Nebraska on April 19, 2003, at the age of 102 years. She attended school in Aurora, Nebraska and attended high school at St. Ursula Academy in York. She then taught one year in Scottsbluff, Nebraska. Carrie married Cyrus Eugene Carlson on July 16, 1921. They lived on a farm in Hamilton County until they moved to Aurora in 1936. She worked as a waitress at Spry's Café, the Little Owl Diner, and at other jobs in Aurora. She was an excellent seamstress, and she also taught sewing in Aurora. Cyrus died on February 17, 1952. In 1954, Carrie went to Washington, D.C. where she attended the Hannah Harrison School to learn the Bishop Method of sewing which she taught to many ladies in the Aurora area. Carrie married Warren (Red) White on March 10, 1957 at Giltner, Nebraska and they moved to the farm near Marquette. Warren died on October 7, 1961. Carrie moved back to Aurora in 1973. Carrie loved her needlework and taking care of her grandchildren and her cat. She was preceded in death by her parents, husbands, and one daughter, Donna Taylor. Carrie is survived by her two sons: Warren E. Carlson and Dick Carlson, both of Aurora; three daughters: Gloria Christian of Hastings, Wynona Troester of Hampton, and Carrolyne Wolff of Aurora; 18 grandchildren, 36 great grandchildren, and 21 great-great grandchildren. |
