Funeral Services were held 10:00 A.M., Friday, September 18, 1998 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Aurora. Interment was held in the Aurora Cemetery.
OBITUARY: Joe Wieczorek, Sr.
Joseph Edward Wieczorek, Sr., the son of Michael and Mary (Hanson Wieczorek, was born at Rockville, Nebraska, on October 22, 1930, and died at his home in Aurora, Nebraska, on September 15, 1998, at the age of 67 years, 10 months, and 23 days.
His early years of schooling were at Boelus and later he attended Grand Island Senior High School. He served his country during the Korean Conflict in the U.S. Navy from January 2, 1948, until his discharge on December 22, 1951. After serving in the military he farmed and was employed by the Rainbow Bakery for many years.
On March 2, 1955, he was united in holy matrimony to Shirley Wilson, at the Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Grand Island.
He was gainfully employed as a journeyman/lineman for 20 years, serving all of Nebraska. His last employment was at the Grand Island Independent.
Joe was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Aurora. He was an avid gardener, and loved to can and make jellies of his produce. He was a Nebraska football fan, and enjoyed working with cars and pick-ups.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother Melvin, and two sisters Verna and Cecilia.
Those who remain to cherish his memory are his wife Shirley of Aurora; three sons, Joseph of Lubbock, Texas, Steven of Rockhill, South Carolina, and George of Aurora; two daughters, Rebecca Spidle of Central City, and Hillary Wieczorek of Aurora; two brothers, Leo and Clem both of Grand Island; two sisters Stella Schleicher of St. Libory and Helen Lartique of Memphis, Tennessee; 7 grandchildren, Joseph, Stacey, Amanda, Andrew, K.C., Lauren, and T.J.
