Bessie Williams

Bessie Williams, age 92, of Aurora, died Friday morning, February 23, 2001 at the Hamilton Manor.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M., Tuesday at Higby Mortuary Chapel. Rev. Monty Nelson will officiate. Interment will be in the Aurora Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3 to 8 P.M., Monday at Higby Mortuary.

OBITUARY: BESSIE WILLIAMS

Bessie Gaynelle (Avers) Williams, the daughter of Emiel H. and Edith S. (Joy) Avers, was born on the family farm in Nuckolls County Nebraska, south of Edgar, Nebraska on April 12, 1908 and died in Aurora, Nebraska on February 23, 2001, at the age of 92 years.

She attended country grade school and graduated from Edgar High School in 1925.

On May 15, 1930 she married Charles H. Williams in Hastings. Mr. Williams worked a mechanic for various companies, including Grosshans in Aurora, before opening his own repair shop in Aurora. She loved to cook, and worked for various cafes in Aurora, as well as the school system in Aurora. Even after retiring she continued to cook cookies and pies for people she knew. Charles passed away in December of 1981. Bessie continued to live in her own home until moving to Hamilton Manor in January 1999.

Bessie was active in the Presbyterian Church, which she joined in 1935. When her son joined the Navy she became a member of the Navy Mother’s Club, attaining the office of Admiral. She also belonged to various clubs, enjoyed entertaining, as well as crocheting, donating many items to others.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, four sisters and three brothers. She was the last survivor on both her husband’s side and her family, thus ending two families.

She is survived by her son, Roger Williams of Hastings; two daughters, Bonnie Jensen of Grand Island and Marcine DeMaranville of Omaha; 5 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren.
