George WilsonFuneral Services were held 10:30 A.M., Monday, October 20, 1986 at Higby Mortuary. Interment was held in the Aurora Cemetery. OBITUARY: George Wilson George Henry Wilson, the son of John L. and Clara Elizabeth (Lewis) Wilson, was born in Hamilton County, Nebraska, on January 2, 1889, and passed away at Aurora on October 16, 1986, at the age of 97 years, 8 months, and 24 days. He grew up in Hamilton County where he attended country schools. He then farmed and for a few years was an auto mechanic in Murphy. On December 25, 1912 he married Abbie Belle Zigler at Marquette. She died June 9, 1924. He married Lois Mock on January 1, 1927 at Aurora, and she preceded him in death on November 2, 1983. George worked as a rural and city mail carrier in Aurora for 39 years, retiring in 1959. During his retirement years he was an active woodworker and furniture maker. He was well known for his interest in softball, and organized and coached the first girl’s softball team in Aurora. George’s survivors include six sons; George of Blair, Robert of Omaha, James of Lincoln, and Gerald, Ronald and John all of Aurora; nine daughters, Faye McIntosh of Quincy, Illinois, Dorothy Legge of Seattle, Washington, Luella Wieczorek, Iola Hayman, Sharon Alvis and Charlotte Monson all of Grand Island, Shirley Wieczorek of Aurora, Connie May of Hastings, and Linda Modrell of McCook; one sister, Mrs. Mary Christenson of Plano, Illinois; 49 grandchildren and 31 great grandchildren. Those who preceded him in death are his parents, his 2 wives, 1 daughter Elva Masten, 1 brother John Wilson, and 4 sisters, Mattie Fye, Hattie Peters, Orpha Otto, and Margaret Fowler. |
