Donald Witt

Donald Witt, age 71, of Aurora, died Monday, April 23, 2001, at St. Francis Hospital in Grand Island.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M., Friday at the Church of Christ in Grand Island. Brother Gary Bennett & Brother Jerry Bady will officiate. Interment will be in the McPherson Cemetery in Maxwell. Visitation will be from 3 to 8 P.M., Thursday at Higby Mortuary in Aurora. OBITUARY: DONALD WITT

Donald Edward Witt, the son of Omer and Marcella (Merril) Witt, was born in Omaha, Nebraska on September 7, 1929 and died in Grand Island, Nebraska on April 23, 2001, at the age of 71 years.

Donald grew up and attended school in Elsie, Nebraska. He graduated from Elsie High School, where he was valedictorian of his class. In 1948 to 1949 he taught in a one room school house in Hayes Center. From 1949-50 he taught 5th and 6th grade in Wilsonville, Nebraska.

Don joined the United States Air Force and it became his career. He served in Vietnam. During his Air Force career he was stationed in Alaska, Guam, Thailand, France and several other overseas bases.

Donald was united in marriage to Mildred Baker on October 7, 1972 at Las Vegas, Nevada. He retired at Wurtsmith Air Force Base in June of 1977.

He was preceded in death by parents.

Donald is survived by his wife, Mildred of Aurora; children, Beverly Esposito and her husband Philip of New York, Donna Gannon and her husband Jerry of Wisconsin, Barbara Henderson and her husband Stanley of North Dakota, Leslie Witt of California, Lori Creps of North Dakota, Gary Witt of North Dakota, James Witt of North Carolina and Marcella Witt of Nebraska; brother, Bill Witt and his wife Elaine of McCook, Nebraska; sister, Rebecca Berkenbosch and her husband Mel of California; grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
