James Madison Woodard Jr

James Madison Woodard Jr. age 98, of Denver, died Thursday, December 18, 2008.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Monday, January 5, 2009 at the Presbyterian U.C.C. in Aurora. Barb Johnson will officiate. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. OBITUARY: JAMES ‘JIM’ WOODARD, JR.

Jim was born on January 4, 1910 in Aurora Nebraska to Mabel and Dr. James Madison Woodard Sr. He passed away December 18,2008 at the age of 98.

Jim loved his wife and daughter dearly and called them the apples of his eyes.

Jim was an avid golfer for most of his life and was a member of Cherry Hills Country Club. He had been a long time member of Thunderbird Country Club, Rancho Mirage California, Garden of the Gods Country Club, Colorado Springs CO and Lakewood Country Club, Lakewood CO. Jim played for 18 years as a semi-pro in the Bob Hope Desert Classic. He had more holes in one than could ever be counted. He also has a wall of trophies for his abilities on the golf course.

Jim was a life member of the El Jebel Temple, Denver as well as a life member of the Royal order of Jesters. He belonged to the Lakewood Rotary Club for many years. He was a member of the Delta Tau Delta Fraternity University of Nebraska.

Jim was recruited as a punt returner for the University of Nebraska where he played from 1928-1930. He also attended Creighton University, Nebraska Hastings University, Nebraska and George Washington University.

Jim worked in Washington D.C. for various agencies. He started out with the War Production Board and then the Department of State where he was Chief of Placement. He later worked as a field recruiter for the CIA. He retired from the CIA and moved to Denver. His retirement was short lived, as he was offered and accepted a job with the Federal Center. He eventually retired for good from the General Services Administration at the Federal Center in Colorado.

Jim was instrumental in restructuring a bank in his hometown of Aurora, Nebraska. He devoted many years to helping with the success of that bank and its growth. He will be missed by many close friends and associates in Nebraska.

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of 42 years Mary Philpott Woodard and daughter MaryPat Woodard both of Colorado.
